Page Optimization |
There are META TAGS on every page that provide valuable information about the page content. The three important tags are KEYWORDS, TITLE and DESCRIPTION, as far as page optimization is concerned. The filename of you page can also affect the page. KeywordsYour keyword choices are an important indicator of the page content. Don't enter too many as the search engines may see it as 'keyword stuffing' and penalize you. Around 5 keywords should be sufficient as long as they appear in the page content. TitleThe title appears in the information bar and any tab at the top of the page. Anything visible to the visitor is another chance to reinforce your message. It is another opportunity introduce your main keyword. DescriptionThe description is very important. Google uses it as the text describing your site in the search listing making the description your marketing banner to pull in traffic. Also the keyword typed in the search engine is highlighted in bold in the listing and so must be included. If it is not then the relevancy of your website may be in question. Headings and TextThe Search Engine algorithms that rate a page give headings greater weight than other text on the page. Even text in bold. 80% of your visitors will only look at the headings while they scan your site and move on. Headings are important to show that your site is relevant and interesting, so include keywords but remember they are there to get the visitor to read the rest of your content. Internal links (Site Structure)Internal links guide the Search Engines when they come to examine (crawl) your site. They dictate how the site is structured and how your visitors navigate through your site. Ideally it should be a tiered structure with a clear hierarchy and avoid any confusing loops. Links are more valuable when the text of the link matches the target page. Also, links that include a keyword seem to carry more importance. Always include a Sitemap to assist the Search Engines. You can sign up for accounts at Google, Yahoo and MSN where you can specify these. External LinksExternal links are the key to building a good Page Ranking.
